Young ski racers, ages five to 15, converged on the sunny Bear Valley Ski Resort Jan. 18 and 19 for the annual Rasmussen Classic Slalom with Blake Action of Ahwahnee taking first place in his division (boys under 14), and sister Emerson Action, placing second in one race and third in another in her division (girls under 12).
Emerson Action had the fastest time on Sunday morning's race for all the under 12 girls and boys.
Will Fontana of Coulterville took first place in boys under 16 division..
The competition featured skiers from Dodge Ridge, China Peak, Bear Valley and Yosemite's Badger Pass competing for the fastest times in two races on Jan, 18 and two races on Jan. 19. The times are combined to determine the winners.
Fontana posted the fastest time for the boys. The historic Yosemite Winter Club founded in 1928 sponsors the Yosemite Race Team, and supports and encourages winter sports in Yosemite. An alpine ski race team, the Yosemite Race Team races in the USSA/Far West Central Series. The Yosemite Winter Club awarded Blake Action, Emerson Action and Will Fontana with Summer Ski Race Camp Scholarships.
The racers are thankful for the support that the Yosemite Winter Club has provided in helping them become competitive ski racers.
The USSA is the home of the United States Olympic Ski Team. The athletes start as children ski racing and have the opportunity to progress and compete at the highest levels of the sport.
