Washington Union dismantles Badger wrestling

The Yosemite High wrestling team suffered a heartbreaking defeat Thursday, Jan. 9., losing to Washington Union 78-0 in their North Sequoia League home opener.

The team was diminished to six wrestlers against Union due to team members not making weight, and after a few wrestlers left the team, ending their season prematurely. Yosemite gave up 48 points in the match due to forfeits.

113 pounds - YHS Ellen Saunders, pinned

120 pounds - YHS Matthew Horton, pinned

126 pounds - YHS forfeit

132 pounds - YHS Isaac Soliz, loss by maj. dec. (17-6)

138 pounds - YHS forfeit

152 pounds - YHS Matthew Holden, loss by maj. dec.

160 pounds - YHS forfeit

170 pounds - YHS Erik Johnson, pinned

220 pounds - YHS forfeit

Heavyweight - YHS forfeit

The Badgers will look to rebound during their next match-up as they travel to Kerman to take on the Lions. The match will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Kerman. The Badgers next home match will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, against Chowchilla.
