Who's the best?

January 7, 2014

The Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis will sponsor the second annual 'Best Pizza in Oakhurst' contest, noon - 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Oakhurst Community Center.

According to Lori Howard, wife to committee chairperson Bruce Howard, last year's winner, Pizza Factory, capitalized on the title by placing a billboard on Highway 41 in Coarsegold with the wording "Voted Best Pizza in Oakhurst."

Attendees will have the opportunity to taste all the pizzas and vote for their favorite. About 200 attended the 2013 event, and more than 300 is expected this year.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. They can be purchased from Kiwanis members or from the participating competitors — Di Cicco's Italian Restaurant, Round Table Pizza, Me-N-Eds, Pizza Factory and Sugar Pine Pizza Take 'n Bake.

Kiwanis will use the revenue raised from the event for scholarships to graduating seniors from Yosemite and Minarets high schools, Valley Children's Hospital, and other area projects. Last year, $2,000 was raised for scholarships.
