DUI problems continue

— Staff report

December 23, 2013

A single car accident occurred late Tuesday, Dec. 16 on the north side of Deadwood Mountain.

Kimberly Devito of Oakhurst was traveling northbound in a mini-SUV on Highway 41 near Victoria Lane before losing control of the vehicle and darting off the road.

According to witnesses, Devito, who was driving erratically, went off the highway, down an embankment and traveled through thick brush and small trees for about 175 feet before coming to a stop.

Devito was uninjured in the accident and was able to walk away suffering only minor bumps and bruises.

Traffic control slowed drivers while a tow-truck spent nearly an hour removing the car and getting the roadway cleared.

Devito was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and was transported to Madera County Jail were she was released the following day.

The California Highway Patrol is asking people to be extra careful while driving during the holiday season and to never drink and drive.
