Sheriff's Department seeks assistance in Maquire investigation

December 19, 2013

As the investigation into the death of a 17-year old Simi Valley girl continues, Sheriff John Anderson is asking anyone who may have seen 20-year-old Scott Jacob Mason, 18-year-old Jacob Patrick Banaga, or even the victim, 17-year-old Tara Maguire, sometime between Saturday, Dec. 14, and Monday, Dec. 16, to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770.

Both men, arrested late Monday night, remain behind bars. They are being held for willful cruelty to a child. Their bail currently set at $10,000.00

Sheriff Anderson says the area of North Fork both men and the victim traveled to, is a popular destination for locals and tourists year round.

The trio would have been seen near the area of Rock Creek sometime between Saturday, Dec 14, and Monday, Dec. 16.

That area of the Sierra National Forrest is located off Minarets, which is also referred to as the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway -- an 83-mile driving route with views of some of the Sierra National Forest's most striking landmarks.

No further information can be released at this time. Again, Sheriff Anderson is asking the public for its assistance in helping Madera County Sheriff’s investigate this case.

“Anyone who either saw or may have spoken to a member of this party, we are asking you to please come forward,” said Sheriff Anderson.

The number, again, to call, 559-675-7770.
