Shopping money flows to Fresno

Letters to the Editor - 12/19/13 edition

Dear Editor,

Allow me to respond to the Dec. 5 Sierra Star article about the shopping survey conducted by the North Fork Chamber of Commerce.

The survey simply said what we already knew ... shopping money flows to Fresno. Shop locally is not an answer. Capitalism is at work here.

People will weigh the cost of driving to Fresno and the availability of products verses what can be bought in the local community. The facts are simple. We do not have a local Costco, Target, Walmart, Lowes or Trader Joes. We don't even have a department store or new car dealerships — do I need go on with a list?

Getting local stores to offer discounts is commendable but as long as the big retailers stay away nothing will change.
