New coaches will lead girls soccer teams

— Yosemite High correspondentDecember 3, 2013

It's a new season of soccer for the Yosemite Lady Badgers and both the varsity and JV teams have new coaches this year.

Vanessa Jasper who has coached the JV team the last two years is coaching varsity this year. Jasper is a Yosemite alumni who played varsity soccer all four years for the Badgers.

Shelby Collings, also a YHS alumni, is coaching the JV team.

Both teams have plenty of talent, and look strong and promising according to Jasper.

Eight players are returning to the varsity team from last year and they plan to improve on last season's 4-14-3 record.

The varsity team is young with only four seniors on the squad. Returning seniors are Regan Samora who has been on varsity for her entire high school career, Victoria Glanzer who is one of the two goalies on the team, and defensive players Hannah McMechan and Zoe Powell.

"I am looking forward to building this team into a strong, united, and hard working group of ladies," Jasper said.

The team has a few preseason home games in the coming weeks. They host Avenal High School at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, and Minarets at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9.
