Mustangs advance to quarter-finals of state playoffs

November 27, 2013

The No. 1 seeded Minarets High School volleyball team (29-3, 10-0 WSL) steam-rolled the No. 8 seed Calipatria High (15-10, 9-3-1) last night on its home court in a CIF D-V state play-off game in three straight sets, 25-8, 25-12, 25-7. The team is 13-0 on its home court this season.

Taylor Meyer had 19 assists and three ace serves for the No. 1 seed Mustangs — Carlee Boomer had 10 digs — and Katie Grant had six kill shots and three blocked shots.

The Mustangs host Riverside Christian (22-8, 9-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday night in a semi-finale game of the state playoffs. Riverside Christian hails from the Warrior League of the D-V Southern Section and is moving on after a forfeit of Mammoth High.

A Minarets win Saturday would give them yet another home game Tuesday, Dec. 3 against the winner of Pomona Catholic High School (20-11-1, 10-2), who defeated Frazier Mountain in a close five set match, or La Jolla Country Day (21-12. 5-2), who defeated West Shores High (24-2, 10-1) in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-9, 25-9.

The Mustangs are two games away from a State D-V championship game game in Anaheim on Dec. 7.
