The No. 9 seed Yosemite High School boys water polo team (13-9, 8-3) defeated the No. 8 seed Fresno High 10-7 in the semi-finale round of the CIF Central Section D-II play-offs Nov. 13 in Fresno.

"Jared Wood really dominated the game at the beginning scoring three of his four goals in the first quarter," coach Brandon Brokaw said. "The second quarter we really separated from them scoring five goals."

The Badgers had to hang on in the second half as Fresno made a run in the third quarter scoring four goals.

"We got two big goals from Kevin Lauterbach in the second half and in the fourth quarter we slowed the game down and finished with strong defense and goalie play from Brett Stanfield," Brokaw said.

Yosemite was the only team with a lower seed to win in the first round.

Other scoring came from Lauterbach (four), and Alex Mears (2). Stanfield has 11 blocked shots on goal in the game.

The Badgers then advanced to the section quarterfinals Nov. 16 against the division's No. 1 seed, Tulare Union, losing 25-5.

"Tulare Union was one of the best teams that I have ever coached against," Brokaw said.

Yosemite goals came from Jared Wood (3), and Lauterbach (2).
