Music for the mountains

— Oakhurst Lutheran ChurchNovember 19, 2013

For the fourth consecutive year, more than 50 singers from Mountain Area church choirs including New Community United Methodist Church, Oakhurst Lutheran Church, Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, and Christ Church/Anglican, will come together for a two performances of a beautiful Christmas program at 4 and 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Presbyterian Church, 39696 Highway 41.

Both performances will be accompanied with an orchestra.

Here are just a couple notes about this year's piece, "The Promise of Light," by composer Joel Raney:

Multi-generational musicians: This particular event, which has in just four short years become one of the Oakhurst's most highly anticipated holiday musical offerings, is wonderfully multi-generational, ranging all the way from almost-90-year-old Coarsegold resident Bob Ornberg, one of the bass section singers, down to Yosemite High School senior Jeff Foster.

Four-handed piano: Part of the live musical accompaniment includes a little-seen, but always fascinating, four-handed piano part — where two pianists share the bench and play at the same time.
