Veterans Honored

— Staff Report

November 12, 2013

To remember and honor U.S. military that have fought for this country and its people, a Veterans Day Service, sponsored by the Little Church on the Hill Foundation, was held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

The service included patriotic hymns, short messages, prayers and a reading by Rev. David A. Sebastian, pastor of Oakhurst Lutheran Church.

Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church's Boy Scout Troop 316 held its annual Veterans Day Flag Retirement Ceremony Monday night at the church under the direction of Scoutmaster Jack Bayt.

According to George Stillman, Troop 316 charter organizational representative for the church, the yearly event was held to honor veterans who served this country, and also to honorably retire worn or torn Americans flags. This ceremony was approved by Congress in 1924. Only the military and Boy Scout Troops are permitted to hold such ceremonies.
