Big thank you

Letters to the Editor - 10/31/13 edition

October 29, 2013

Dear Editor,

I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone that participated in the Oct. 12 and 13 Oakhurst Fall Festival.

I've said before that the good things that get done in our community get done by volunteers. The Fall Festival Committee stepped up and gave of their time and expertise to make this a very successful event.

Our goal was to give a showcase to local businesses and bring business to our community. Due to the extraordinary efforts of our many volunteers we were successful in that endeavor. Our volunteers included members of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau, Rotary Club, Wild Wonderful Women, Boy Scouts, Yosemite Swim Team and other people that want to help the businesses in our town.

Another thank you goes to our business sponsors. Without their financial support this event could never happen.

It costs money to put on an event like this with printing of posters and flyers, signage, radio, county permits, state permits, health department permits, security and hundreds of other costs. These costs are paid in advance and without sponsors it could not happen.

The vendors also deserve a big thank you. We had wineries, breweries, chocolatiers, crafters and many more displaying and sampling their wares. We reached out to our local restaurants to supply food and all the ones that participated did a great job.

We also appreciated all the people that attended the event.

I urge all of you to volunteer to help with this event next year. I guarantee that you will receive back much more than you give.

The best things that get done in our community are done by volunteers. Make a difference.

Todd Miller, chairman, Oakhurst Fall Festival
