Sheriff's log for 10/17/13 edition of the Sierra Star

6:31 p.m. Sept. 30 - Deputies respond to a shoplifter at a business in the Oakhurst area. Upon arrival the suspect was found in possession of more than $500 worth of merchandise from the store. The suspect did not have any money or ATM cards. The subject was taken into custody and charged with commercial burglary.

6:44 p.m. Sept. 30 - Deputy dispatched regarding two individuals who were detained by security for shoplifting. Suspect was arrested and found in possession of drug paraphernalia.

10:56 a.m. Oct. 1 - Yosemite High School student was found in possession of marijuana on campus.

6:29 a.m. Oct 2 - Oakhurst resident heard gunfire and noticed a subject running through her property to a car, which then sped off. Area was checked and deputies discovered an illegal marijuana growing operation. The discovery was reported to MADNET and the garden was removed.

1:35 Oct. 2 - Deputies seized a firearm from a citizen per civil restraining order.


9:51 a.m. Oct. 2 - Accidental shooting by a retired law enforcement officer from Atlanta, Ga., staying at Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino. Victim had placed his firearm on a chair in the bathroom of his hotel and the firearm fell off the chair and accidentally discharged shooting the victim in the left leg. Victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Oct. 3 - Deputy responds to ? in regards to a possible fight. Suspected aggressor is located and found to be in possession of illegal metal-knuckles.

5:40 p.m. Oct. 4 - Deputy responds to school in regards to juvenile in possession of alcohol.

North Fork

4:21 p.m. Oct. 4 - Suspicious suspect was contacted at residence. Deputy noticed ammunition in car. Subject had been convicted on prior felony charges and was arrested for a felon in possession of ammunition. Following a search of the vehicle the subject was to be found in possession of narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia.

12:02 a.m. Oct. 5 - Unknown suspect(s) unlawfully entered victim's RV trailer through an unlocked window. Suspect took property belonging to victim and fled scene without being seen.

The above calls are a sampling of calls from the Madera County Sheriff's Office for the week of Sept. 29 to Oct. 5 and are in no way inclusive. All suspects are assumed innocent until proven guilty.
