YHS Cadets earn promotions

Milestones for 10/17/13 edition of the Sierra Star

October 15, 2013

Three students in the Yosemite High School California Cadet Corps earned promotions on Oct. 2.

Juniors Ryan Diehl and Paizley Jackson were promoted to the rank of Cadet Sergeant and freshman Kael Mazzola was promoted from recruit to cadet.

Cadet Corps is the youth program of the California National Guard. Its purpose is to promote physical fitness, leadership, citizenship, academic skills, and appreciation of the military. Promotions in the Cadet Corps are earned by achieving satisfactory physical fitness, mastering military drill and ceremonies, and passing a written exam covering knowledge of customs and courtesies, basic and advanced skills, and military history.

The Yosemite High battalion is instructed by Capt. Ellen Peterson, who also teaches U.S. history and Badger academy, and coaches the school's boys and girls cross country team.
