River Clean-up great success

Letters to the Editor - 10/10/13 edition

October 8, 2013

Dear Editor,

We had another successful "Great Sierra River Cleanup" Sept. 21.

In the Mountain Area, we had three locations with a total of 39 wonderful volunteers cleaning our waterways. The volunteers picked up a total of 18 large bags of garbage (260 pounds) and five bags of recyclables (38 pounds).

As of early afternoon on the day of the event, an estimated 3,100 volunteers turned out to remove about 61,500 pounds of garbage from sites up and down the Sierra Nevada. Amazing.
