Water polo team beats Sierra 17-9

Sports Briefs for the 10/10/13 edition of the Sierra Star

The Yosemite High boys varsity water polo team (8-3, 4-1 NSL) beat Sierra 17-9 Oct. 1. Three goals were scored by Jared Wood, Ben Hartesveldt, and Alex Mears. Ron Luther and Kevin Lauterbach scored two each and Harry Thearle, Andrew Selbicky, Jaden Malcolm, and Jeff Foster each scored one for the Badgers.

On defense, Dylan Thacker and Brett Stanfield had 6 and 5 blocks, respectively.

On Oct. 3, the team overwhelmed Dinuba 16-4 after taking a 10-0 first quarter lead. Lauterbach had six goals in the game, Mears three, Jared Wood and Hartesveldt, two. Foster, Travis Wood, and Peter McLean scored one each. Goalie Standfield had 10 blocks in the contest.

The Yosemite girls varsity water polo team lost 8-7 in overtime to Dinuba on Oct. 3. Scoring two goals each for the Badgers were Kendra Tapia, Kaily Neal, and Sierra Sosa. Kayla Howell scored the other Yosemite goal. First time goalie Meghan Montalto had eight blocked shots during the game.

The JV team beat Dinuba 11-10. Malory Meiss scored five goals, Kmiko Smith had three, and Julia McConville, Haley Clark, and Nicole Tapia scored one each.
