On behalf of the board of directors and members of the Sierra Historic Sites Association, I want to thank all the people who made the 17th Annual Mountain Heritage Days a success Sept. 20-21.
We salute the businesses and individuals who generously donated to our silent auction and raffle drawings, sponsored our parade trophies, displayed their products, demonstrated old-time living skills, participated in the parade, entertained us, and prepared food for our guests.
We are indebted to the amateur radio folks who provided communications, the explorers and Citizens On Patrol, for logistical support, the CHP, Madera County Sheriff, and Cal Fire. We are particularly grateful to the National Parks Service for sending their wonderful mounted unit to Oakhurst.
Special words of appreciation go to the Rotarians, who braved an absolute downpour to prepare a delicious meal for the 76 hardy mountain folks who stayed for dinner to the SHSA volunteers who cheerfully shifted dinner from outdoors to indoors under miserable conditions and to Bill and Laura Huddleson, Fresno Flats caretakers, who labored above and beyond the call of duty while soaked through and through.
But most of all, we need to thank all the wonderful smiling people who lined the parade route Sept. 21 and who came to Fresno Flats to share our celebration. It was particularly heart-warming to see all the children enjoying their day with us.
Thanks again, and we hope to see everyone at Fresno Flats during 2014, as we continue to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Yosemite Grant, signed by President Lincoln, that created the National Park System.
