Weekend events at Fresno Flats

The Vision Academy of the Arts have events this weekend to build excitement leading up to the 17th Annual Sierra Historic Sites Association's Heritage Days (Sept. 20-21). “We are calling the Sept. 14 and 15 events A Step Back in Time To Heritage Days,” said Sheila Adams, Vision Academy board member.

From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, a Country Fair with a 10 a.m. “Best Salsa in the Mountain” contest and a 11 a.m. baked cookie contest held at Fresno Flats Historic Village & Park on School Road (427).

Children’s book author/illustrator Steve Riley will be sketching caricatures talking about Ty Cooney the raccoon, the main character in his books, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The day will include vendors, entertainment, and demonstrations including fly fishing techniques, line and square dancing, taekwando, gymnastics, and chain saw wood carvers. Indian tacos will be available for lunch.

Performing will be Diane’s Gymnastics (1 p.m.), Chamber Maids,Patti Laws School of Dance, and Connie Collins molding clay pottery.
