David Van Fleet du Bois, of Coarsegold, died Aug. 12, 2013 at the age of 91.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1922, in Turlock, Calif. to Henry and Beatrice du Bois
Mr. du Bois graduated from Hilmar High School in Hilmar, Claif. and later became a radio and radar servicing in the US Navy during World War II. He then earned his Bachelor's and Master's as well as a teaching credential from San Francisco University.
Mr. du Bois was a founding member of the Gavilan Community College in Gilroy where he spent most of his career teaching biology, electronics and psychology.
He moved from Hollister to Coarsegold with his wife, Pat, where they built their home. He loved to till the soil, plant vegetables and take care of the land,
Mr. du Bois is preceded in death by his first wife Frances de L'Etanche, their daughter Melanie du Bois and his second wife Patricia Mahoy Martin.
He is survived by his brother Ron du Bois; sister Janne du Bois; daughters Jill Heinke, Thaya, Cyanthia, Monica, Gina du Bois and Roxanne du Bois Cull; son Tod du Bois; and step-children Karen Bell, Martin, Randy and Colleen Martin. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Yosemite Lakes Park Clubhouse in Coarsegold.
