Fire off Highway 49 near Chowchilla Mountain Road

Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20 a fire started near Chowchilla Mountain Road and West Fall off Highway 49 in the Ponderosa Basin. Fire crews have been called to the area to help contain the five acre fire. Resources dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames include 12 engines, four chief officers, two bulldozers, two hand crews, an air attack plane, two tankers and a helicopter. Traffic has been shut down at Ponderosa Basin, and 15 to 20 structures are being threatened in the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
