Jim Turechek of Ahwahnee, died on July 30, 2013 at the age of 81 following a long bout with Parkinson's disease.
Mr. Turechek was born in Chadron, Neb. on July 27, 1932 and was one of 10 children who spent the majority of his summers, as a youth, growing up on a cattle ranch.
Following graduation from Chadron High School, Mr. Turechek worked in the oil fields of Rawlins, Wyo. before moving to Fresno. He moved to the Mountain Area1960. He worked with the Williams family at the Pines Resort, Bass Lake, where he met his wife, Rosalie Newby.
Mr. Turechek was a Golden Glove Boxer in his youth and his hobbies included hunting, drawing and playing the harmonica.
The Turechek's moved to Ahwahnee in 1968 where they had a successful antique business. Mr. Turechek was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie and step-daughter LaRetta Roope.
He is survived by his care provider and friend Susan Bennett of Ahwahnee, brothers Ted Turechek of Simi Valley, and Dennis Turechek of Oneonta, N.Y.; three sisters, Phebe Peterson, Marjorie Tamborello, and Lou Turechek of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will host a private memorial gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
