Alleged arsonists hearings in Madera, not Bass Lake

July 23, 2013

A department change request for the Yosemite Lakes Park couple arrested on charges of arson, Kenneth Jackson and Allison Waterman, was denied July 18.

Attorneys with the Madera County public defender office, requested Judge Mitchell Rigby to transfer the preliminary proceedings from Madera Superior Court to the Sierra Division Court at Bass Lake — the request was denied and Rigby assigned the proceedings to Superior Court Judge Dale Blea. According to Madera County District Attorney at the time of the request, the court reviewed the bail on both defendants, and increased Jackson's bail to from $500,000 to $1 million. Waterman's bail remains at $500,000. Both defendants are being held in the county jail.

Jackson was represented by Martin Jones and Craig Vollins and Waterman was represented by Greg Gross.

Judge Blea will set the date of the defendant's preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 9.

Jackson is facing 21 counts of alleged arson, one count of battery on a peace officer, and one count of resisting arrest.

Waterman is now being charged with 10 counts of arson of wildlands.

The couple share an additional charge: conspiracy to commit arson of wildlands and an inhabited structure.

Waterman's bail was initially set at $25,000. She was bailed out June 26, and re-arrested June 29.

Jackson and Waterman were detained the evening of June 25, at the scene of a small vegetation fire close to their home in Yosemite Lakes Park.
