Hwy. 41 head-on collision

July 23, 2013

A head-on collision occurred around 10:20 a.m. Thursday, July 18 on Highway 41 in Oakhurst near El Cid Mexican Restaurant.

According to California Highway Patrol, Yvonne Caan, 75, of Los Angeles, was traveling southbound in a 2009 Mercedes on Highway 41 at Empty Creek Road at 35-40 m.p.h. Steve Bomford, 52, of the United Kingdom, was traveling northbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Cativa just south of Empty Creek Road at 45 m.p.h. For unknown reasons, Caan allowed her vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, directly into the path of Bomford and an unnamed passenger, resulting in a head-on collision. Both vehicles came to a rest in the northbound lane just south of Empty Creek Road.

Caan sustained a broken left clavicle and was transported by Sierra Ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Bomford complained of chest pain and was also transported by Sierra Ambulance to Community Regional. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
