Billy Ray Powell died June 18, 2013, at the age of 82.
Mr. Powell was a resident of Oakhurst for nine years and resided in Lodi for the past two years.
He was born June 8, 1931.
Mr. Powell enjoyed playing his guitar and singing at church. He coached youth and adult softball for numerous years.
He owned and operated Ray's Barber Shop in downtown Merced for 42 years. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by wife of 49 years, Edna Powell.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Diane Holly Powell of Lodi; children Diana Douthit and husband David, Beverly McCann and husband Dave of M'Boro, Tenn., and Mike Powell and wife Tammy of Atwater; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister Frances Coleman of Norman, Okla.
A funeral service was held June 21 at First Baptist Church in Merced, with a burial following at the Merced District Cemetery in Merced.
