Old Glory Down

In My Opinion

J.R. FroelichJune 11, 2013

She use to be so beautiful

Waving proudly in the breeze
But lately she's been looking gray
And sagging to her knees.

We've reveled in her stars and stripes
Her bright red, white and blue
But now she's somewhat tarnished
By those who want something new.

She was born with our new nation
With struggle and blood and dreams
But many do not know this
And her story is lost in schemes.

Her strength brought forth from our Creator
And rewarded by undreamed wealth
Has dwindled to a trickle
By greed and serving one's self.

She once proclaimed her welcome
With her lamp at the Golden Door
But massive, unjust legal-speak
Will shine her lamp no more.

So proud, she's been defended
From "the shot heard 'round the world"
Through a war that almost rent her glory
And two wars that saved the world.

She's been carried into battle
Where our meddling cost countless lives
But her God blessed cause for freedom
Has been lost since '45.

We drew a line where we still stand
We lost in Tonkin Bay
And now we bleed upon the sand
With each and every day.

Her government took all the gold
And all the silver too
And now they crank out worthless dollars
To give to who knows who.

We won't secure our borders
We spend more money on the crime
We supply the crooks with weapons
And give money to the slime.

We've never been more divided
By color and creed and race
While the government uses the stats they want
To build a voting base.

Our God given rights to freedom
Have all now been replaced
By licenses and permits
All paid to: 'By His Grace.'

Old Glory hangs dejected
Her principles forgotten
So a selfish, greedy, mindless core
Can revel in all things rotten.

So today she's hanging up-side down
Her colors are a mess
To notify those who understand
Old Glory's in distress.

Old Glory's in distress. This Flag Day, June 14, 2013, I salute my Brothers and Sisters In Arms. Since the birth of our nation we have taken a stand between our loved ones, our country, and those who wish to destroy us. We have committed our very lives to serve the country we love and have performed our tasks to the best of our abilities. We stand proud today and remind our nation that as Old Glory waves in the breezes of freedom we owe a debt of gratitude to our founding fathers and our Creator who proclaim that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these, are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

May God bless my brothers and sisters and my country and may Old Glory forever wave with pride.II
