Yosemite drops finale two games

Badger baseball team loses to Chowchilla in 13 innings

-- Yosemite High correspondentMay 15, 2013

Chowchilla High School's baseball team (15-10, 8-7) jumped out to a 5-0 lead as they defeated Yosemite High (7-18, 4-11) 7-2 on May 10 in Chowchilla in the last regular game of the season.

In a game that wasn't close, there were positive signs from underclassman for next year. Sophomore Evan Diehl went 2 for 2, and sophomore Joey Woolsey drove in both runs with a double. Although it doesn't show in the final score Woolsey pitched well. He has regained his form from early in the year and should be a top performer in the North Sequoia League next season.

The Badgers started three sophomores and two freshmen in the game. All have progressed steadily through the year and with a full summer league schedule providing needed experience, next season looks bright for this young team.

Badgers lose at home in 13th inning

In a May 8 game, Chowchilla scored two in the top of the 13th inning to top Yosemite 4-2 in a three and a half hour marathon at Badger Field.

Chowchilla scored in the first inning on a walk and a double off Badger starter Dillon Moran. Yosemite evened it in fourth on a triple by Stewart Carlson and a failed pick off attempt that allowed him to score.

The score was tied 1-1 after eight innings, when Chowchilla scored a run in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth Moran's two out single scored Trevor Smith to even the score at two.

Yosemite put runners in scoring position in three of the last four innings but couldn't come up with the big hit to end the game. Chowchilla put the game away with two runs in the top of the 13th inning.

Moran pitched nine innings allowing only one earned run. Grady Eaton pitched the last four innings giving up two runs to pick up the loss.

Carlson went 3 for 6 with two triples to lead the Badgers at the plate.

JVs lose two

The Badger JV team also lost twice to Chowchilla last week, 10-3 and 11-0.

Picking up hits for Yosemite were North Tuso, Michael Silva, Mason Gaynor, Devon Lee and Jordan Berg.
