Eric 'Coach' Hansen

Eric "Coach" Hansen died May 1, 2013, at the age of 69.

Mr. Hansen was a resident of Oakhurst for 30 years, formerly of Gilbert, Ariz.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1943 in Long Beach to Edward and Margaret Hansen.

Mr. Hansen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in science at Long Beach State and a Masters of Arts degree in drug enforcement at the University of LaVerne.

He started his teaching career at Mayfair High School, Fountain Valley High School, Chowchilla High School, and ended up at Yosemite High School in 1976 as part of its first teaching staff, retiring in 2004.

Mr. Hansen also worked as a sheriff deputy for 14 years with the Madera County Sheriff's Office.

He enjoyed golfing and coaching, and coached tennis, wrestling, football and golf for many years.

Mr. Hansen is survived by wife of 46 years, Beverly of Gilbert, Ariz.; sons Eydin Hansen and wife Tara of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Ryan Hansen and wife Jessica of North Fork; grandchildren Lauren, Riley, Cassie and Cash; brothers Dennis Hansen and wife Susan of Palm Desert, and Mike Hansen of Aspen, Colo.; sisters Jun D'Onofrio and husband Gary of Prescott, Ariz., Judy Perkins of Thousand Oaks, and Jan Carter of Inglewood.

A celebration of life will be held June 1 in Gilbert, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barrows Neurological Center in Phoenix, Ariz. for cancer research.
