The Golden Chain Theatre will present its children's theatre production of "The Secret Garden" May 10, 11, 17, 18 and 19. "The Secret Garden" is a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, adapted for the stage by Tim Kelly and directed by Patti Law-Poggi.
Adults and children alike will love this charming, upbeat adaptation of the literary classic. Mary Lennox is a spoiled and emotionally neglected young girl who is sent to live in England with her uncle after her parents' death. Misselthwaite Manor turns out to be a gloomy fortress, her uncle being rarely home and his bitter young son, Colin, is an invalid surrounded by overprotective caregivers. Curious Mary discovers a strange walled garden that has been locked up for years of which no one is allowed entry. With the gardener's apprentice, Dickon, a lad who can talk to the animals, Mary learns to love and care for things and people in her life again.
Along with songs and dances, "The Secret Garden" is a story of hope, love, and the amazing power we have with ourselves to heal hurts.
The play will run at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, May 10, 11, 17, 18, and at 2 p.m., Sunday May 19.
The Golden Chain Theatre is located 2 miles north of Oakhurst across from the Hounds Tooth Inn.
