Golf team continues its winning ways

Kevin Lauterbach led the Yosemite golf team to their sixth straight North Sequoia League tournament victory on April 24 at Sierra Meadows.

Lauterbach, a junior, fired a two under parr 34 to give him 49 points in the stableford format. His round was the league's best so far and left Lauterbach with a huge lead in the league's Most Valuable Player points race and left the Badger's with a commanding lead in the NSL.

Kerman's Jay Beene finished second with 45 points and Yosemite's Matt Moneymaker was third with a 37 for 43 points.

On April 26, a non-league match with Dinuba was an easy win for Yosemite with Chris Wick shooting a 72 for 18 holes and Lauterbach a 74.

"These guys are playing their best golf of the season and it is at the right time," coach Reg Turner said. "We are getting close to where we thought we had to be in order to be successful in the playoffs."

On Wednesday, the Badger's played in the NSL championship tournament at Madera Muni and although results were not available at press time, the team was a heavy favorite to win the tournament and advance to the Area Tournament at Riverside Golf Course on May 6.

From there, the top two teams from each division will play for the CIF sectional championship at River Island golf Course in Porterville on May 14.
