Mustangs edged by league leader Fowler 10-8

Last Friday's West Sequoia League showdown between the Minarets Mustangs (12-13, 3-3) and the Fowler Red Cats (17--6, 5--1), was a slugfest with Fowler getting the 10-8 win. Minarets Sam Reyes took the loss and Folwer's Enrique Cardenas recorded the win.

Minarets out hit Fowler 12 to five, but the Mustangs could not overcome eight errors in the game.

After trading runs in the first inning, the Red Cats scored six runs in the top of the second, the result of three errors and three walks by the Mustangs.

Minarets fought back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Reardon led off with a walk and advanced on a double by Scott Parker. Both scored to make the score 8-3. A walk, error, and a hit batsman was all that Fowler needed to put two more runs up on the board and take a commanding 10--4 lead going to the bottom of the sixth. Reardon started off the 6th with a walk and would later come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Junior pitcher Sam Reyes, 10-5 Fowler.

Down 10-5, the Mustangs mounted a fierce comeback in the final frame, but after scoring three runs and having the bases loaded with two outs, the Mustangs took the last strike looking for the 10-8 defeat.

Mustangs beat Parlier 10-3

The Mustangs beat the Parlier Panthers (5--6, 2--4) 10-3 April 24.

With the Panthers up 2-1 after two innings, the Mustang bats came alive in After three runs from three hits and a Panther error, junior Keenan Reardon singled to centerfield, driving in Conley Biglione for the fourth run of the inning, and taking the lead 5-2.

Robertson led off the 4th inning with a bunt down the 1st base line, a throwing error by pitcher Manual Majia put Robertson at 3rd base with no outs. Luce and a sacrifice fly to center field to score Robertson, to put the Mustangs up 6--3. Carter would struggle throughout the remainder of the game but went the distance to record the 10--3 win.

These Mustangs are compiling some impressive stats on the season. As a team they are batting .343, No. 4 in the central section, Division IV. Biglione leads the section division with a .556 batting average, followed by Robertson's .451, and Reardon's .414. All of the starting Mustangs are hitting over .300.

The team has eight players in the top 25 of hitting in the Central Section. Minarets is also ranked No. 8 in the state with 127 stolen bases, which leads the Central Section.

The Mustangs travel to Riverdale (4-12, 1-5) and Fresno Christian (2-11, 1-5) this week.
