-- Yosemite High School correspondentMay 1, 2013

The Yosemite High School band, percussion and jazz band will present a free "End of the Year Concert" at 7:30 p.m.,Thursday, May 9, in the school cafeteria.

This year, Randy Hyatt, YHS music director, decided to use the cafeteria to allow more room for the performing groups. The bands will feature a few of the favorites from the year and some new tunes including "Great Movie Marches" and "Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

"The percussion class is always full of surprises," Hyatt said. "The Jazz Band is gearing up with several solos, Pat Mierkey on the trombone and a few of their favorite jazz selections."

The concert is free to the public.

"We decided not to charge for this concert as a way of expressing gratitude to our supportive community," Hyatt said. "Those who would like to make a donation will have the opportunity to support our fine musicians."

The Yosemite High music department, along with many parents, just returned from their spring tour to Northern California including a musical exchange with Mariposa High and a performance at Great America in Santa Clara. Students also visited Stanford University, the Academy of Science in San Francisco and had lunch at Bubba Gumps on Pier 39.
