Liberty Hawks shutout Yosemite Badgers twice

Eaton throws one hitter in 1-0 loss

Liberty High scored an unearned run in the second on a throwing error for the only run they would need to defeat Yosemite High (5-12, 2-5) 1-0 last Friday in Madera Ranchos.

Although Yosemite's Grady Eaton pitched a one hitter, he took the loss.

It was a pitchers duel from the beginning between Connor Brogdon of the Hawks and Eaton. It was a contest of contrasting styles -- Brogdon with his 85 mph fastball striking out 13 Yosemite hitters and Eaton with pinpoint control keeping the Hawks off balance.

The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the second. After a walk to a Hawks batter, he advanced to second on a dropped throw. With two outs, a wild throw by Badger third baseman Jenson Davis, allowed the runner to score from second for the games only run.

The Badgers biggest threat came in the fifth. Tyler McIntyre led off with a single and Brian Woolsey sacrificed him to second. After a strikeout and intentional walk to Eaton, Stewart Carlson grounded out to end the threat.

In the seventh, Eaton struck out with a runner at second to end the game.

The only hit off Eaton was a harmless single in the fifth.

Joey Woolsey reached base every time he batted with a single, walk, and being hit by a pitch. Other Badgers with hits were McIntyre, Carson Conti and Jarrett Barone.

Hawks win 4-0

On April 9 the Badgers managed only three hits as they were shut out 4-0 at Badger Field.

The Hawks Stetson Woods went 6 1/3 innings, giving up the three hits for the win. Yosemite pitcher Dillon Moran went the distance, giving up two earned runs to get the loss.

Liberty picked up single runs in the first and third innings and put the game away in the fourth with three hits and a Badger error combined for two more runs and the 4-0 lead.

Yosemite never had more than one base runner in any inning. Conti, Joey Woolsey and Eaton had singles for the Badgers.

With a walk in the third, Carlson extended his on-base streak to nine at bats.

JV team drops two
