Car crashes into business

A little before 4 p.m. today, Friday, April 5, a car crashed into the Purple Cow Mall in Oakhurst. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Maniord, Susan McCoy, 62, of Mira Loma, was attempting to park her Discovery Land Rover in front of the Purple Cow Mall. While doing so, her foot slipped off the break and she accidentally hit the gas pedal, crashing into the building. Neither McCoy, nor her passenger, Ellen Joslyn, 65, of Ahwahnee, were injured. Maniord said the accident is still under investigation.

At the time of the accident, Kerwin Duerksen, a vendor at the business, was working. He said that, moments earlier, he had been standing where the crash occurred. He was about 20 feet away from the crash when it happened. He said all he heard was a loud crashing sound and he ran.

Purple Cow owner Charles Davis was not at his business at the time of the accident, but arrived on scene shortly afterwards.

"You see pictures in the paper of stuff like this but never dream ...," Davis said, drifting off into thought.

Davis said just taking inventory alone will take a long time. The crash took out a door, partial front of the building, and numerous merchandise items.
