John K. Mathers

Obituary for 4/4/13 edition of the Sierra Star

John K. Mathers died March 28, 2013, at the age of 90.

Mr. Mathers was a resident of North Fork for 34 years.

He was born Aug. 23, 1922 in Springfield, Ohio.

Mr. Mathers served in the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran.

He worked for the Los Angeles City Fire Department for 26 years as a firefighter and chief's aid. When he was younger, he also worked as a locksmith.

Mr. Mathers was an active member of the ROMEO's breakfast group and "The Linch Mob," a Tuesday evening dinner group.

He enjoyed working with wood and helping others as a handyman.

Mr. Mathers was preceded in death by wife of 56 years, Lois Mae Mathers.

He is survived by son John R. Mathers of Oakhurst; daughter Vicki Lynn Creer and husband Patrick of North Fork; grandson Matthew Creer of San Francisco; sisters Pat Elliott and Marge Smith of Whittier.

Memorial services are pending.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
