The family of Dr. John McBride (an Oakhurst physician involved in a head-on collision Jan. 20 with a drunk driver in Coarsegold) would like to add to our guest column that ran in the March 28 Sierra Star.
Along with encouraging the community to join us in a Mother's Against Drunk Driving walk at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11 in Fresno's Woodward Park, and the suggestion to write letters to Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino regarding the issue of drunk driving, we think it is also important to encourage letters to our county supervisor Tom Wheeler. They can be emailed to email@example.com or mailed to 200 W. 4th Street, Madera, Calif., 93637.
If we are to change any sort of policies regarding safety on Highway 41, it will be with the support of our lawmakers, not simply the casino. While influential in the fight, the casino alone can not make the policies necessary for change. It is important for members of the community to contact Mr. Wheeler just as much as the casino, if not more.
