Golf event will support youth program

April 6 event is Jordan Keyser's senior project

-- Staff reportMarch 27, 2013

Yosemite High School senior Jordan Keyser has been a member of The First Tee of Fresno junior golf program since the first class was held in 2008. She also knows a little about golf, having been one of the only high school golfers in Central California to be named league Player of the Year four consecutive years by North Sequoia League coaches. She will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno, on a partial golf scholarship in the fall.

Keyser, with a desire to give back to the sport and The First Tee (with satellite program in Eastern Madera County), is organizing a golf tournament she will host at 9 a.m. April 6 at Sierra Meadows Country Club. Player check-in for the tournament starts at 7:30 a.m.

Keyser is seeking corporate sponsors for the event and foursomes to play in the tournament.

"This tournament will be a lot of fun and the proceeds will go to The First Tee, the program that not only teaches youth the game of golf, but also valuable life skills and core values that build character so they can become better people," Keyser said. "The program has made me a better golfer and a better person."

"No child is ever turned away from The First Tee due to the inability to pay registration fees," said Michael Firpo, executive director of The First Tee of Fresno. "Everyone's support of Jordan's senior project tournament will help us continue providing scholarships to all youth players that require some financial help."

Pre-registration for the tournament is $75 or $85 the day of the event. Registration fee includes continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf and awards dinner. Prizes will be presented for longest drive, closest to the pin and top finishers in a putting contest.

Corporate sponsorships available are:

Gold: ($500): Foursome in the tournament. Tee-Sign with company logo on the course and listing on sponsor signs on all banquet tables.

Silver: ($100): Tee-Sign with company logo on the course.

Bronze: (Raffle prize donation). Company name included on sponsor signs on all banquet tables.
