Richard Eugene Hallowell died March 12, 2013, at the age of 70.
Mr. Hallowell was a resident of Coarsegold for 13 years.
He was born April 30, 1942 in Winnebago, Neb.
Mr. Hallowell served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, retiring in 1982 as a senior chief petty officer and harbor pilot. Following his Navy career, he worked as a police officer in Point Mugu, and later worked for the Fresno City Water District.
He enjoyed traveling -- making many trips across the U.S. in his RV -- and pow wow dancing.
Mr. Hallowell was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristine Hallowell, and brother, Joe Hallowell.
He is survived by wife Carol; sons Timothy Hallowell and Richard Hallowell Jr. of Henderson, N.C., and Joseph Hallowell of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepchildren Amy Ketner of Manteca, Barbara Logan of Clovis, Michael Morris of Camarillo, and Robert Morris of Tulare; sisters Connie Crain of Mississippi, and Sherrie Gurley of Tennessee; brother Rick Grovijohn of Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life and memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the American Legion Hall, Post 509, 3509 No. First Street, Fresno. Graveside services will be held for family only on April 26.
