Love and mercy

Dear Editor,

In response to Steve Hall's letter to the editor in the March 14 Sierra Star, I confess I am guilty as charged -- I am in fact, an adherent to Peter Cavanaugh, and I would direct him to 1 Peter 3:8-11 in the New Testament. It's a beautiful passage, exhorting us all, among other things, to have "unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind."

My simple intellect is unable to square any of that with the values represented by Steve Hall, who holds himself out to be a stalwart, NRA worshipping, Republican Tea Partier from North Fork.

His solution is guns. Peter's solution is love and mercy. I'll cast my lot with Peter any day.
