Bass Lake resident Donna Gould, 76, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries, including possible multiple fractures and internal injuries, following a single vehicle accident Wednesday at about 3:20 p.m. She was listed in “fair” condition Thursday morning by a hospital spokesperson.

According to the California High Patrol, Gould was travelling at about 50 mph eastbound on Bass Lake Road (222), east of Pettitt Road in her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer when she took her eyes off the road and allowed her vehicle to cross the roadway and went off the north side of the road and over an embankment after crashing through a guardrail.

The vehicle rolled down a steep embankment and came to rest on its side with Gould pinned inside. It was reported Gould was conscious the entire time it took to extricate her from the vehicle. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

In addition to CHP officers, Cal Fire, Madera County Fire and Sierra Ambulance responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
