James "Jimmy" Lester Phillips died Feb. 17, 2013, at the age of 59.
Mr. Phillips was a resident of Ahwahnee for 22 years, formerly of Mariposa for 28 years.
He was born Sept. 24, 1953 in Alameda.
Mr. Phillips graduated from Mariposa High School in 1971 and worked as a plumber throughout Mariposa, Merced and Madera Counties for more than 35 years.
He enjoyed working with his hands on construction projects; helping and meeting new people as a plumber; sharing home-spun stories with family and friends; watching sports; rebuilding old cars; tinkering in his shop; and landscaping for his wife and many friends and families.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by father Lester "Hoot" Phillips; sister Marilyn; and brother-in-law Forrest Ward.
He is survived by wife of 40 years, Charity Faith Phillips; mother Roberta Phillips; daughters Jaycee Smith and husband Preston of Mariposa, Kourtini McLaughlin and husband Jeremy, and Michelle Rounsivill and husband Greg, all of Ahwahnee; sons Michael Phillips and wife Amber of Coarsegold, and J.T. Phillips and wife Samantha of Ahwahnee; sisters Patricia Kelly and husband Harry of Pennsylvania, and Judy Ward; brother Tom Phillips and wife Lily of Mariposa; in-laws Bob and Dorothy Standlee of Ahwahnee; 14 grandchildren; nieces and nephews Steven Ward and wife Tina of Mariposa, Chelsee Albright, Cameren, Ryen and Kylie Ward; and many other family members.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at 1 p.m. March 9 at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds, Building B, 5007 Fairgrounds Road, Mariposa.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a scholarship being set up in Jimmy's name at Yosemite Bank, Acct #307015768.
