Tamara Gurgel, 49, of Coarsegold, was placed under arrest by a California Highway Patrol officer for allegedly driving under the influence following a 10:40 p.m. accident on Road 400 Feb. 24 that caused a power outage in and around Coarsegold for about a half hour.
According to the CHP report, Gurgel was driving her 1994 Ford Ranger northbound on Road 400 just north of Cattle Way and due to her level of intoxication, drove her vehicle off the west edge of Road 400 and down an embankment, impacting two PG&E power poles, causing the blackout in the area.
Gurgel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was trapped in her vehicle due to the live high-voltage power lines.
She was airlifted to California Regional Medical Center in Fresno where she was treated for moderate injuries.
