Don’t miss out on a German feast at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Oakhurst Community Center

Mountain Area residents won’t have to wait for Oktoberfest this year to enjoy some fresh-cooked traditional German food. Instead, they can head over to the Oakhurst Community Center, 39800 Road 425B, at 6 p.m. Saturday where the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a German Fest.

“It is going to be a great event and we are looking forward to spending a fun night with members of our community while enjoying good food and live entertainment,” said Darin Soukup, chamber executive director.

The four-course menu will be cooked by Chef Sandra Miller who attended the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. The menu was created by Miller and German-born Michaela Edwards of the Oakhurst chamber.

Dinner will include Gurken Salat (cucumber salad), Graupen Suppe (barley soup), sauerkraut, Rotkraute (red cabbage), Kartoffel Auflauf (potato casserole), Weiswurst (white sausage), Knockwurst (knock sausage) and Apflestrudel (apple strudel) for dessert. There will also be a variety of German beers and wines available at the bar.

“German Fest committee chairman Mike Sullivan, of Sullivan’s Tire Pros, along with the German Fest committee, has been working hard to make this a signature event for our community and the chamber,” Soukup said.

Soukup also acknowledged Sierra Tel as a Platinum sponsor and Sullivan’s Tire Pros as a Gold sponsor.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m., followed by raffle drawings and a live auction at 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased through the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce.
