After closing its doors Nov. 1, the Met Cinema will open its doors again Friday, March 1 thanks to the efforts of three friends -- Matthew Sconce, Keith Walker and James Nelson -- and the community that came together to support the theater.
March 1-8 will be a soft opening. During that first week, Sconce said it will be a time for movie-goers to come in, see a movie, and help iron out any problems the theater might have in preparation for the March 8 grand opening.
The red carpet grand opening will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 8, first come first serve. Sconce said they are hoping to get Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful" for the first showing. More details on the grand opening are coming soon, he said.
The re-opening of the cinema is coming with support from movie studios.
"We have had three of the largest studios come on board and support our new membership model," Sconce said. "We expect all of them to join us since our model is easier and more affordable for patrons, better for theaters and better for studios."
Sconce said they are working on digital projection and hope to have the theater digital by the time it opens. If not then, hopefully not long after.
Members will soon receive emails to let them know when their membership cards are available at the theater. Sconce said they will take a picture of each member to be associated with their account for security purposes.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, there will also be a parking lot sale at the theater offering old camera equipment, projectors and editor tables.
