Homer Dean Dennis died Feb. 10, 2013, at the age of 74.
Mr. Dennis was a resident of Yosemite Lakes Park in Coarsegold for 10 years.
He was born Jan. 15, 1939, in Ontario to Homer and Madge Dennis.
Mr. Dennis attended Abilene Christian College in Texas his freshman year, and then transferred to George Pepperdine College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960.
He served as a minister for Churches of Christ in Evanston, Illinois, San Pedro, Norwalk, Santa Ana and Honolulu. Later, he also ministered in churches in Arizona, Melodyland Christian Center in Anaheim, and Coarsegold.
Mr. Dennis also worked in sales for Bancroft Whitney law book publishers and for several funeral homes, marketing funeral arrangements.
During the 1980s, he wrote and published a book titled, "I Survived! So Can You!" after his first marriage ended and he had his first colon cancer surgery. Dean left an unfinished book titled, "Why Weekly Communion Matters."
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, preaching, singing, sports, and especially his church and worshiping Jesus Christ. He was instrumental in the beginnings of Sierra Springs Church in the spring of 2007.
Mr. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild Phoenix; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Diana; children Mike, Tom and Liz; stepchildren Mark, Martin and John, and their wives; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother Melvin.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Oakhurst Evangelical Free Church, 50443 School Road (427), Oakhurst.
