Robert "Bob" H. Ridenour died Feb. 8, 2013, at the age of 86.
Mr. Ridenour was a resident of Coarsegold for 20 years, and lived in Fillmore for the past two years.
He was born Oct. 16, 1926 and raised in Columbus, Neb.
Mr. Ridenour served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II in the western Pacific.
He attended the University of Nebraska, and received degrees from University of Arizona and Cal State Los Angeles focusing on history and education.
Mr. Ridenour taught at Mesa Union Elementary School in Oxnard for more than 20 years.
He was an active member of the Lutheran Church (Our Saviour's in Oxnard, and Oakhurst Lutheran in Oakhurst); was involved in his children's activities as they were growing up; and served on the board of directors of the California Pines Property Owners Association for 27 years.
Mr. Ridenour enjoyed Nebraska Cornhusker Football, travelling and family vacations.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Mae; children Mary and husband Dennis French, John and wife Marjorie, Marcia and husband Greg Pierce, and Steven and wife Denise; eight grandchildren and their spouses; and four great-granddaughters.
A visitation was held Feb. 12 at Santa Clara Mortuary, and another visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel, 49269 Crane Valley Road (426), Oakhurst, followed by graveside service at 10 a.m. at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Feb. 15 at Oakhurst Lutheran Church, 39255 Black Road, Oakhurst, with a reception to follow. On Sunday, Feb. 17, a time of remembrance and celebration will be held at noon at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 905 Redwood St., Oxnard, followed by a reception.
