The Yosemite High School Leos Club is in the process of recruiting new members, and will hold its founding meeting March 16 at the Yosemite Gateway Inn in Oakhurst. The club is a junior community service organization sponsored by the Sierra and Bass Lake Lion Clubs.
Some events the Leos Club plans to participate in and sponsor include eye glasses donation drives, training seeing eye dogs, community beautification projects and helping the Lions Club with their events.
Leo Club history and objective
Jim Graver, a member of the Glenside Lions Club and a baseball coach in Pennsylvania, started the Leo Club idea in 1957 -- with the first club charted Dec. 5, 1957.In 1967, the board of directors of Lions Clubs International adopted the Leo Club program as an official program of the association.
Its objective is to provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.
