Obituary for 1/24/13 edition of the Sierra Star

Charles Louis Hewett died Jan. 18, 2013, at the age of 83.

Mr. Hewett was a resident of Coarsegold for 13 years.

He was born Aug. 19, 1929 in Brawley to Oscar and Gladys Hewett.

Mr. Hewett is survived by wife of 60 years, Mildred Hewett; brothers Wayne Hewett of Cherry Valley, Dale Hewett of Eufalua, Okla., and Chuck Hewett of Carmel Valley; daughters Cheryl Hill of Larue, Texas, Karen Provence of Seaside, Diane Mason of Visalia, and Lynda Argentino of Fresno; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren

He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant. He served in the Korean War in the 63rd Infantry, K Company.

Mr. Hewett worked as a foreman for 18 years in the Los Angeles County Flood Control Department, operating as a driller and grouter on dams throughout the state, testing the integrity of dam walls. Prior to working for Los Angles County, he served as a foreman with Boyles Bros. Drilling Co.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting and golf.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel, 49269 Crane Valley Road (426), Oakhurst, followed by refreshments at Sierra Senior Citizens Center, 49111 Cinder Lane, Oakhurst.
