Gerold Leslie Cornwell died Jan. 6, 2013, at the age of 90.
Mr. Cornwell was a resident of Oakhurst for three years, formerly of Sun City, Ariz.
He was born June 24, 1922 in Smith County, Kan.
Mr. Cornwell served in the U.S. Maritime Service in the South Pacific during World War II, and in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked on the staff at Hayward State University and worked for his congressman while living in Ceres, where he was also active with Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Cornwell enjoyed spending time with his family and the activities of Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst.
He was preceded in death by stepdaughter Mary Brooks Nadeau and step-granddaughter Catherine Sowden.
Mr. Cornwell is survived by wife of 25 years, Mary Cornwell; stepdaughters Sue Sowden and Candy Frankel; stepgrandchildren Joe and Garth Frankel, Kenneth, Andrew and Phillip Sowden, and Teresa Silva; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
