YHS girls take third at soccer tournament
The Yosemite High girls soccer team, after six consecutive losses (Madera, Clovis East, Madera South, Hoover, McLane and Caruthers), placed third in the 12-team McLane Tournament last weekend.
The Badgers beat Dos Palos 2-0 with goals by junior Mariah Lincoln and senior Daphne Norman.
The team then tied Coalinga 0-0 before losing to Division I Central JV 0-4.
The team closed out tournament play with a 1-0 win over Dinuba 1-0 to earn the third place trophy. Yosemite goal came from Regan Samora.
According to coach Natalie Cooks, several players missed the tournament or were sick, so many team members played every minute of the four games in two. days.
"They were exhausted and sore by that fourth game, but they pulled through and won," Cooks said. "I'm very proud of the girls, they definitely earned it." The team hosts Fresno High today (Thursday). JV 4:30, varsity 5 p.m.
YHS boys soccer
The Yosemite High boys soccer teams open league play on Tuesday, Jan. 8, hosting Chowchilla. The JV game is at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.
The teams play Kerman on Dec. 10 at home and will host Minarets High School on Jan. 16. JV game, 4:30 p.m., varsity 6 p.m.
YHS baseball meeting
Yosemite High School will host a baseball player and parents meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, an the Yosemite High library.
