The search is still underway near Yosemite National Park for a plane that went off radar around 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
The single engine aircraft, called a Mooney, was being flown by Nicol Wilson, a resident of Santa Barbara County who is in his mid-60s. He was flying solo from Santa Barbara to Mammoth Lakes. His family reported him missing Monday night.
Multiple aircraft are out searching the area today according to Kari Cobb, public affairs officer for Yosemite. Cobb said the aircraft will be out searching until they find something or it gets dark. The search is begin conducted solely by air because that area of the park is inaccessible by foot or vehicle this time of year.
Cobb said the plane was last detected by radar near the North Dome area.
We dont know if the plane is in park, but we are searching the area as best we can just to make sure, Cobb said.
